[Video] Overwatch Bandwidth Update To Help Maintain Connections For Weak Internet

Blizzard has recently released an update to help maintain the connection of players with weak bandwidth connection in Overwatch. This is intended to ensure that even with sudden onsets of slow connections, games won’t be interrupted as easily as before.

With “Overwatch” being an online competitive shooting game, reliable internet connection is obviously a must. Unfortunately, there are times when connections suddenly slow down or cut off for no apparent reason or because there are issues that the ISPs are dealing with. Even for users who have a high internet connection, interruptions can happen occasionally. Thanks to the high bandwidth update that Blizzard released for the PC versions of the game, this won’t be as much of a problem as before, Gamerant reports.

According to Tim Ford and Philip Orwig, the game’s lead engineer and senior engineer respectively, the update should allow PC gamers to have more stable connections when playing Overwatch whenever their internet connections are on the fritz. Players who have substandard bandwidths will be relocated to the less intensive lower-bandwidth grouping. This will allow games to be a lot smoother.

“The net result is you will be shot around corners less, you’ll be able to predict escape moves better and the server will hear about it sooner,” Ford said.

The explanation for the update is given via video, which PC Gamer notes demonstrates what it means to have a higher tick rate for PC gamers at 63hz. For those who have never experienced any slowdowns with their internet connections, the video won’t provide much value. For those who have been experiencing bandwidth issues, the difference will become immediately discernable.

At the very least, players who have connection issues will be able to react faster in the game. This means a higher chance of killing and a lower chance of getting killed.
